We often crave something delicious, but refuse ourselves the pleasure due to the fear of gaining extra weight. However, sweet treats don’t always have to be unhealthy. Today, Cook It will share with you a lifesaver of a recipe for an apple oatmeal pie that will not harm the figure. Low-calorie and delicious, this dessert will exceed all your expectations.

Although the original recipe features sugar for additional sweetness, you can easily replace it with honey, maple syrup, or any other healthy sweetener. The number of apples in the recipe may seem a bit excessive, but don’t worry — they will make the pie very juicy and tender. Be sure to sprinkle the apples with citrus juice, so they don’t darken. Let’s start!

Steps

1
Done

Combine softened butter with sugar and salt. Beat with a mixer for 5 minutes. Add eggs one at a time, continuing to beat until homogenous.

2
Done

Sift the flour into a separate bowl before adding oats, baking powder, and cinnamon. In batches, stir in the mixture into the liquid mass with a silicone spatula. You should have a soft dough.

3
Done

Peel the apples and cut them into small cubes before sprinkling them lightly with lemon juice. Grate the zest from the lemon and add it to the dough. Stir in the apples.

4
Done

Brush a 10-inch pan with butter and arrange the dough inside. Bake the pie in the oven preheated to 355 °F for 45-50 minutes. Do a toothpick test to check if the pie is ready.

Apple oatmeal pie is very tender, so let it cool slightly in the pan. Sprinkle the dessert with powdered sugar, if you want. Although it features oatmeal, you can't taste it at all; instead, the pie has a somewhat nutty flavor. Enjoy!

I am an English major with a love of languages and fiction, and with an incurable travel bug. In my free time, I read fantasy, drink copious amounts of coffee, and like to go see movies. Culinary art means everything to me. My main hypostasis is the taster, though. The music school has taught me to appreciate the symphony of airy meringues, to create harmonious overtures of light snacks, hard rock of meat, fish, and vegetables on the grill. Choir classes have accustomed me to hear and feel the people nearby and create perfect harmonies of sounds.
