Store shelves are full of energy bars, and no wonder: they make the perfect grab-and-go bite. Besides, they are pretty healthy, consisting mainly of nuts and fruits. They look appealing, don’t you agree? But fruit and nut bars aren’t cheap.

To treat yourself and your loved ones to some healthy sweets without breaking the bank is simple — make them yourself! Your family and friends will appreciate the effort. After all, fruit and nut bars are absolutely delicious and exceptionally portable: you can take them anywhere!

Cover dried fruits with hot water and let sit for 20 minutes. Remove the pits.

Separately grind flax seeds and nuts in a coffee grinder.

Grind dried fruits in a blender. Transfer to a deep plate.

Add the nuts and seeds to dried fruits and mix well by hand.

Add ground flax seeds and cocoa powder, mix again.

Place the mass between two bits of cling film and roll into a quarter-inch-thick layer.

Cut into pieces and transfer them to parchment paper.

Bake in the oven for 2 hours at a temperature of 170 °F.

Store fruit and nut bars in the fridge for up to three days. We doubt that they'll go uneaten that long, though — little ones adore them!
