Recipe
Bean pasties are a staple in many cuisines of the world. A pie with lobiani beans, for example, is very popular in Georgia. It resembles lobio; the only difference is that is features dough. Japan has given us anpan — sweet rolls with bean paste. American cuisine is famous for utilizing recipes from different countries and universally remaking them.
Today, we want to share with you a recipe for American-style bean pasties. To make them, you do not even need to cook beans — feel free to use canned ones, and better yet, those in tomato sauce, as it will make an excellent sauce for the filling.
Steps
1

|
Drain tomato sauce from the canned beans into a saucepan and set the beans aside. Put the tomato sauce on the stove, add barbecue sauce, and bring to a boil. |
2

|
Fry finely chopped onions, celery, and carrots in a skillet with one tablespoon of oil. When the vegetables become soft, add finely chopped mushrooms and cook until ready. |
3
Done
|
Mash the tomato paste, mix it with vegetable dressing and breadcrumbs. Add chopped scallions, paprika, ground black pepper, soy sauce, and mix thoroughly. The filling should be slightly moist, but not runny. |

Beat egg and use it to grease the edge of the dough rectangle; form it into a tight roll. Cut each roll into 4–5 parts and make diagonal cuts on the top of each pasty. Brush with egg and bake in the oven for 30 minutes at 360 °F. |
Is it possible to prepare bean filling from scratch? Of course, it is! For this, you will have to soak the beans overnight, then boil until soft and mix with tomato sauce. You can substitute paprika with bell pepper, add more spices and herbs — cilantro or thyme, for example. American-style bean pasties are very aromatic and are perfect accompaniments to sweet tea.
