Every year a couple of weeks before big holidays all the hosts of the world begin to refresh their knowledge of cooking. What dishes to serve on the festive table, how to decorate them, how to surprise guests? We suggest starting small. A couple of years ago, Heston Blumenthal turned over the gastronomic world, introducing his Meat Fruit to foodies. But you can make both an appetizer and dessert look like tangerines. For example, homemade truffle tangerines!

Today we would like to offer you this simple recipe for a dessert that is definitely going to wow all you guests. Shall we start?

Steps

1
Done

First thing, combine heavy cream with 1 ½ tablespoons of liquid honey. Heat the mixture almost to a boiling point, but don’t boil. Pour the cream with chocolate , beat the mixture in a blender until smooth.

2
Done

Grate the zest of two oranges on a fine grater, pour over to the truffle mixture. Cover the container with plastic wrap, put it in the refrigerator overnight.

3
Done

Meanwhile, melt white chocolate, stirring, on a double boiler. Heat 4 ¾ tablespoons of honey in the microwave to 97 °F (36 °C) degrees. Pour it over to white chocolate.

4
Done

Knead until the mixture forms into a ball. After that, stop kneading and pinch off a small piece from the ball. Divide it into 2 parts.

5
Done

Paint one of the small parts with a green oil soluble coloring, don’t paint the second one. Paint the remaining big part with orange coloring.

6
Done

For the latter, you need about ⅓ of a teaspoon of dye. Mix the dough, spread it in a thin rectangular layer on a plastic wrap. Put in the refrigerator overnight.

7
Done

Remove the truffle dough from the refrigerator, divide and roll it into small candies using gloves. The candies should weigh approximately 1 ¾ oz (50 g). Leave them in the refrigerator to harden.

8
Done

In the meantime, remove the orange dough so that it becomes warm. Divide it into pieces to cover the truffle. Roll out a little with a rolling pin, but don’t make it too thin.

9
Done

When the truffle candies have cooled enough, wrap them in the orange layer, and using a fine grater, form a peel that is typical for tangerines.

Don’t forget about the tail from the green chocolate dough. You can tint tangerines again on the outside with orange food coloring. Such a dessert is stored in the refrigerator for at least 2 weeks, so feel free to make it in advance. Did you like the dessert? We will be glad to know your opinion!

Like many people nowadays, I love to explore new places. My favorite type is slow travelling, when you can really blend in with locals and learn about new cultures and languages. But I think there are also perfect times for enjoying freshly baked pastry, a cup of fragrant coffee, and a good movie in the comfort of your own home. I guess I'm kind of a cultural omnivore, and I watch different types of movies, but the ones about art and food inspire me the most!
