Today we picked up a dessert that you probably have not tasted (at least a homemade one). Posset is a traditional hot drink. Recipes for it appear around the 15th century.

For traditional posset, we typically use alcohol (wine or ale). For a long time people thought that posset could cure the common cold and insomnia. Maybe it was due to milk and alcohol combination. Today we want to offer you a non-alcoholic posset recipe, which is just as healthy and, most importantly, delicious!

Steps

1
Done

Wash and peel an orange. Squeeze the juice using a juicer or other appliances. Zest the peel.

2
Done

Add the zest to milk and bring it to a boil. Next, reduce the heat to low and add orange juice. After a couple of seconds it will curdle.

3
Done

After half a minute, remove the mixture from the heat, add sugar or honey. You can decorate it with orange peel, cinnamon sticks and star anise.

Texture wise posset can resemble yogurt or a mousse dessert, so it is better to use a transparent glass cup or bowl. Shakespeare often recalled about alcoholic posset in his works, and the British themselves like to serve it at historical festivals. What hot drinks do you like to cook? What are popular in your family? Be sure to save the recipe and try it out!

Like many people nowadays, I love to explore new places. My favorite type is slow travelling, when you can really blend in with locals and learn about new cultures and languages. But I think there are also perfect times for enjoying freshly baked pastry, a cup of fragrant coffee, and a good movie in the comfort of your own home. I guess I'm kind of a cultural omnivore, and I watch different types of movies, but the ones about art and food inspire me the most!
