Mousse cakes have been a trend in world culinary for several years now. Where does the secret of such dishes lie? Probably, in the tenderness and diversity of the structure. Mousse literally melts in your mouth, it is light and not sickly sweet.

Chocolate orange mousse cake combines the tenderness of chocolate cream and sponge cake with a bright orange filling. This festive dessert will brighten up your banquet even on the most gloomy day. We recommend cooking it right now!

Steps

1
Done

Pour 2 ½ teaspoons of gelatin with 1 ¾ fl oz (50 ml) of orange juice, mix the ingredients. Leave the gelatin to bloom for 15 minutes. Meanwhile, pour the rest of the juice into a saucepan, add 1 ½ tablespoons of sugar.

2
Done

Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat. When the sugar has dissolved, remove the liquid from the heat, add it to the gelatin. Stir until smooth.

3
Done

Line an 8-inch springform pan (20 cm) with plastic wrap. Pour the cooled orange jelly in there. Transfer the pan to the refrigerator for 2 hours. Meanwhile, prepare the dough.

4
Done

Sift the flour with cocoa powder into a deep bowl. Add baking powder and a pinch of salt. Stir the ingredients. In a separate bowl, beat the butter with the rest of the sugar with a mixer.

5
Done

Add the egg to the butter, beat with a mixer. Pour in the second egg and beat again. At the end, add the vanilla extract, beat the mixture, then beat with a flour and cocoa mixture.

6
Done

Mix the ingredients with a blender, gradually adding milk. Pour the dough into a 9-inch springform pan (23 cm), lined with parchment paper. Bake for 25–30 minutes, checking if ready with a toothpick.

7
Done

Pour the rest of the gelatin with water and leave for about 10 minutes. Meanwhile, in a double boiler, melt milk and dark chocolate, adding ½ cup (140 g) of sour cream. Mix thoroughly. Pour the gelatin to the chocolate.

8
Done

In a separate bowl thoroughly beat the rest of the sour cream with a mixer. Pour chocolate mixture into it. Stir the mousse. When the sponge cake has cooled, remove the top from the cake.

9
Done

Place the sponge cake in a springform pan lined with parchment paper. Pour half of the chocolate mousse on top of it. Refrigerate for 15 minutes. Place orange jelly in the center.

10
Done

Fill the cake with the rest of the chocolate mousse. Flatten the surface. Place the dessert in the refrigerator for at least 5 hours. Then remove the cake from the pan, decorate with slices of orange and mint.

Serve this chocolate orange mousse cake whole — cut it when the guests have arrived. Decoration, by the way, is up to you. Christmas decorations from sugar go well. How do you like this beauty? We will be glad to know about your experience!

Like many people nowadays, I love to explore new places. My favorite type is slow travelling, when you can really blend in with locals and learn about new cultures and languages. But I think there are also perfect times for enjoying freshly baked pastry, a cup of fragrant coffee, and a good movie in the comfort of your own home. I guess I'm kind of a cultural omnivore, and I watch different types of movies, but the ones about art and food inspire me the most!
