Of all the foods that transform into something divine after frying in hot oil, dough reigns supreme. Spain’s equivalent of doughnuts, churros are one of the world’s most indulgent desserts, particularly when made from scratch. With that in mind, today, Cook It would like to share with you an easy and delicious recipe for apple churros.

Although neither traditional nor particularly healthy, apple churros are a treat worth frying for. Crispy on the outside and soft in the center, this dessert will certainly appeal to you. Although a Spanish specialty, you will find all the necessary ingredients for the preparation in your pantry. Churros are deeply satisfying on their own, but tossing them in cinnamon and sugar mixture is an absolutely brilliant move.

Steps

1
Done

Pour water into a pot before adding sugars, salt, and butter and bringing the mixture to a boil.

2
Done

Next, stir in flour and mix until homogenous. Transfer the dough into a large bowl and let it cool completely.

3
Done

Meanwhile, peel and grate apples on the coarse side of the grater.

4
Done

Squeeze the juice from half a lemon into the apples. Add lemon zest if desired. Stir apples into the cold dough and mix until combined. Transfer the dough into a piping bag with an asterisk-shaped nozzle.

5
Done

Combine sugar and cinnamon in a large, shallow bowl.

6
Done

Heat oil and squeeze out 2-inch pieces of dough, cutting them off with scissors. Deep-fry the future apple churros on each side until golden, about 2 minutes. Drain churros on a paper towel for just a few seconds before tossing in the cinnamon-sugar mixture.

Isn't it wonderful that two of the most familiar and boring ingredients in the history of cuisine – flour and water – can transform into a delicious, glorious treat? I am an English major with a love of languages and fiction, and with an incurable travel bug. In my free time, I read fantasy, drink copious amounts of coffee, and like to go see movies. Culinary art means everything to me. My main hypostasis is the taster, though. The music school has taught me to appreciate the symphony of airy meringues, to create harmonious overtures of light snacks, hard rock of meat, fish, and vegetables on the grill. Choir classes have accustomed me to hear and feel the people nearby and create perfect harmonies of sounds.
