Steps

1
Done

Prepare the Macaroni

Bring salted water to a boil and add pasta. Prepare it al dente. Drain the pasta in a colander, rinse with cool water, and drain again.

2
Done

Preheat the oven to 375 °F.

3
Done

Prepare the Topping

Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a large, oven-proof pan. Add breadcrumbs, and stir until they are golden brown. Transfer to a bowl.

4
Done

Prepare the Sauce

Melt ¼ cup of butter in the same pan. Add garlic and saute for approximately a minute. Add flour and continue to cook while whisking for at least 2 minutes. Reduce the heat to low and gradually add 4 cups of milk. Bring to a boil until the sauce begins to thicken.

5
Done

In a separate container, combine cornstarch and the remaining ½ cup of milk. Whisk until mixture is lump-free and stir the sauce until thick. Season with salt and pepper and mix in the bouillon powder.

6
Done

Remove from heat. Add cheddar, ¾ cup of Parmesan cheese, and mozzarella slices. Stir until the cheese has melted. Coat the pasta with the sauce.

7
Done

Top with breadcrumbs and the remaining Parmesan cheese. Broil or grill in the oven for approximately 10–15 minutes, or until bubbling.

8
Done

Allow to cool slightly before serving.

Homemade macaroni and cheese doesn’t get any better than this! Make this mouth-watering meal with a miraculously creamy cheese sauce and a crunchy topping your signature dish, and become the star of your next potluck or holiday party!

I am an English major with a love of languages and fiction, and with an incurable travel bug. In my free time, I read fantasy, drink copious amounts of coffee, and like to go see movies. Culinary art means everything to me. My main hypostasis is the taster, though. The music school has taught me to appreciate the symphony of airy meringues, to create harmonious overtures of light snacks, hard rock of meat, fish, and vegetables on the grill. Choir classes have accustomed me to hear and feel the people nearby and create perfect harmonies of sounds.
