Next time you are going past a grocery store, be sure to pop in for a second and grab some puff pastry and a broccoli head. Why? To make broccoli and cheese hand pies, of course! These airy, aromatic pastries will make an excellent snack or breakfast.

This is the ideal pastry for those who do not want to bother with making the dough. You only need to expend minimum effort to prepare the filling. It will pay off handsomely, though: we bet you have not tried anything this yummy! You will look at broccoli differently after preparing these broccoli and cheese hand pies.

Steps

1
Done

Heat olive oil in a large pan and fry chopped broccoli for 2–3 minutes. Add finely chopped garlic and onions, fry for another 5 minutes until soft.

2
Done

Remove from heat, add grated cheddar and sour cream and mix until smooth. Set aside.

3
Done

Sprinkle the work surface with flour and lightly roll the dough. Cut out circles.

4
Done

Place roughly a tablespoon of the mixture of broccoli and cheese in the center, pinch together the edges. You can crimp them using a fork.

5
Done

Preheat the oven to 375 °F. Line a baking sheet with parchment. Brush the hand pies with a beaten egg. Bake for 20 minutes until golden brown.

Your family will adore these crispy broccoli and cheese hand pies. Broccoli will become a welcome guest in your house, and kids will keep asking for these treats again and again.

I am an English major with a love of languages and fiction, and with an incurable travel bug. In my free time, I read fantasy, drink copious amounts of coffee, and like to go see movies. Culinary art means everything to me. My main hypostasis is the taster, though. The music school has taught me to appreciate the symphony of airy meringues, to create harmonious overtures of light snacks, hard rock of meat, fish, and vegetables on the grill. Choir classes have accustomed me to hear and feel the people nearby and create perfect harmonies of sounds.
