Panini are famous hot Italian sandwiches with various types of filling between two parts of ciabatta. But in Naples panini turn out to be completely different from how they appear in the rest of Italy. Neapolitan panini look like soft snail shaped mini buns. Mouth-watering filling like smoked salami, crumbled bacon and gooey cheese are usually wrapped in layers of soft pastry — such a divine combination!

You will be surprised by how simple the preparation of these delicious buns is. While the dough is rising, (with quick-acting dry yeast it rises faster), chop the ingredients for the filling.

Some Naples bistros serve panini with fried potatoes and capers. You, on the other hand, have the right to experiment with the filling as your heart desires. Don’t hold back: if you want to add chicken or slices of beef, bell pepper or greens, you can definitely do that!



Sift out the flour 2 times so that it is properly enriched with oxygen. Add dry yeast, salt and sugar. Mix warm water with olive oil and pour into the bowl with flour. Knead the dough, leave it for 40 minutes in a warm place to rise.


Cool, peel and chop hard-boiled eggs. Meat also cut into cubes, cut mozzarella into thin slices.


Roll out the dough with a rolling pin, so that it’s rectangular and of medium thickness. Put all the prepared ingredients on it, sprinkle with oregano. Roll up the dough and cut into pieces 2 inches wide (5 cm).


Put the pastry on a greased baking sheet, leave for 15 minutes, preheat the oven to 400 °F (200 °C). Grease the risen buns with butter and bake for 20 minutes.

These buns are so delicious they will disappear in a flash! Italian buns taste best with a cup of latte. You can also take them with you on a trip or a picnic. We guarantee that you and your loved ones will be blown away by this recipe!
