Turkish pastries are just as popular as Turkish sweets. The Turks are especially good at making oven-baked flatbread with spicy meat filling. This pastry uses special technology with the addition of spices and herbs. Eat one such flatbread and you’ll be full for half a day. Our recipe provides an opportunity to feed everyone.

The meat flatbread is first fried in a pan, and then baked in the oven. To make the pastries even tastier, you need to butter them and add some herbs. Traditionally, Turkish people use lamb stuffing for such flatbread. But you can replace it with any other meat.

Steps

1
Done

Mix 7 tablespoons of water with sugar and yeast. Leave for 10 minutes to activate.

2
Done

Add to the sifted flour 1 teaspoon of salt. Add the yeast, yogurt, sunflower oil and rest of the water. Knead the dough.

3
Done

Cover the dough with a towel and leave for 10 minutes. Then grease it with sunflower oil, tightly cover with plastic wrap and set aside for another 10 minutes.

4
Done

Combine ground meat, finely chopped onions, chopped cilantro, garlic and fresh ginger, jalapenos and spices. Thoroughly mix.

5
Done

Divide the dough into 4 parts. Roll out the parts. Lay out the filling and form the flatbreads.

6
Done

Brown your flatbread in a dry pan. Grease the top with sour cream and put in an oven preheated to 350 °F (180 °C) for 30 minutes.

7
Done

Mix olive oil and chopped herbs. Grease the flatbreads and make a stack.

The aroma of this marvelous pastry will blow you away. Believe me, the recipe is totally worth it.

Like many people nowadays, I love to explore new places. My favorite type is slow travelling, when you can really blend in with locals and learn about new cultures and languages. But I think there are also perfect times for enjoying freshly baked pastry, a cup of fragrant coffee, and a good movie in the comfort of your own home. I guess I'm kind of a cultural omnivore, and I watch different types of movies, but the ones about art and food inspire me the most!
